New York Public Library engagement photos at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on Fifth Avenue carry a sense of time that feels rare. It’s the kind of place where moments slow down and emotion has room to settle in. Photographing Noelle and Griffin here felt like the kind of quiet, cinematic magic you might find in an old romance film. Their connection was calm and full of ease, which made this setting feel like a perfect reflection of who they are together.

Noelle first came across my work through her wedding venue’s Instagram. She said how drawn she was to the way the images felt. Knowing I’ll also be photographing their wedding made this session feel even more meaningful. This time together was about beginning their story with intention and creating something they can return to long after the day itself has passed.

Noelle & Griffin’s Romantic New York Public Library Engagement Photos

Noelle and Griffin wanted engagement photos that felt romantic and intentional. The New York Public Library was the perfect place to bring that vision to life. The building holds so much history and texture, with beauty around every corner. It’s a space that invites you to slow down and to let emotion lead.

Their outfits fit the setting beautifully. Noelle wore a flowy soft white dress that moved perfectly with her, paired with classic heels, while Griffin kept it classic in a dark suit.

We also spent a few moments wandering through the Bryant Park holiday pop-up nearby. It included stops at The Truffelist and Loca Madres! Those in-between moments added a relaxed, seasonal layer to their New York Public Library engagement photos and kept the session feeling natural and true to them.

The New York Public Library Stephen A. Schwarzman Building is such a beautiful place in the city to photograph couples who want something timeless and romantic. Between the architecture and natural lighting, it offers so much variety in a single location. You’re also close to locations like Bryant Park which gives you the possibilities of other locations and variety in your gallery.

When planning your New York Public Library engagement photos, I always recommend leaning into simplicity. Clean outfits and thoughtful movement while allowing the space to guide the session helps everything feel natural. It’s a location that rewards slowing down and paying attention to the details around you!

New York Public Library Engagement Photos FAQ

Do you need a permit for New York Public Library engagement photos?

For most engagement sessions, photographing on the exterior steps and surrounding areas does not require a permit. Interior photography may require prior approval through the library’s Office of Special Events.

Are engagement photos allowed inside the New York Public Library?

Interior photography rules are more limited and can change. Some spaces restrict professional or staged photography, so it’s best to confirm ahead of time if interior images are important to you.

Can you use flash during a New York Public Library engagement session?

Flash photography is not permitted inside the library. With that being said, I love to work with the natural lighting and character of the space to create images that feel soft, romantic, and true to the setting!

Is Bryant Park close enough to include in the same session?

Yes! Bryant Park sits directly behind the library and is an easy walk. During the holiday season, the park has festive pop-ups and seasonal vendors, like the Bryant Park Winter Village, which can add a playful and cozy layer to your New York Public Library engagement photos.

Love From Noelle & Griffin:

“My fiancé and I recently had our engagement photos taken by Ell, and we couldn’t be happier. I found her through my wedding venue’s Instagram after seeing she had just shot there, and I instantly loved the way her photos turned out. She is incredible to work with, and the photos are truly above and beyond. We had our engagement session at the New York Public Library, and I shared a few reference images of the vibe I was looking for. She absolutely nailed it, the photos are everything and more, and my Pinterest dreams truly came to life. I can’t wait for her to shoot our wedding later this year!”
